Clean water

The sewage spill last Summer was a wake up call for our town. Since then, our government has taken steps to correct problems at the wastewater treatment plant and put it under the management of an outside company to operate and maintain the plant. Last week on Town Matters Rick Wood toured the facility and interviewed the new managers. If you missed that episode of Town Matters, you can find it online in our archives.
Now that beach and swimming season is upon us, WWER has partnered with the Potomac Riverkeeper Network to provide water quality updates on air. Each week, the Riverkeeper volunteers test the water quality in our area at 3 different locations. The samples are taken on Wednesday, and we will air the results Friday through Monday for our weekend beach visitors and residents. Last October we interviewed Dean Naujoks to learn more about what the Riverkeepers do. You can listen to that interview in our online archive.
Last week we also had the privilege to attend an event at the King George Walmart, where they presented WWER volunteer Tracy Rumohr with a check for $1000 to WWER! Walmart has supported us in this way several times, but this is the first time we had a public presentation of the event. Tracy also got a chance to introduce WWER to some people who had not heard of us. Thanks for spreading the word Tracy!
