Charlie Wilson

Dear listeners.
It is with a heavy heart that am here to tell you that our friend Charlie Wilson has died today. Charlie’s official title at this radio station was “operations manager“, but that doesn’t begin to count the ways that Charlie contributed to WWER. In simple terms, Charlie “kept the trains running on time” by programming and maintaining the automation system that plays nearly everything you hear on 88.1FM. It is a lot of work. Charlie spent countless hours fine tuning the programs, and every element you hear on the air. I think more than anyone, Charlie is responsible for the unique and professional sound of this community radio station.
As if that wasn’t enough, he also DJ’d several shows and helped our other DJ’s produce theirs. He helped create our program schedule. He was involved in every element of this station from the very beginning before we went on air.
Charlie fell ill and entered the hospital on Tuesday of this week. It has all happened so fast that we are in a state of shock. Charlie had such a passion for good radio, and he was key to WWER a success from the start. I don’t know how we will get along without him. I don’t know how I will get along without him. But if nothing else, I know we have to try our best as he wanted that.
At Noon today, we honored him with a moment of silence.
