Our wonderful sponsors – Silver and Bronze
Written by Ted Tait on June 2, 2023
The other day, I came to the realization that I don’t give enough credit to our ongoing sponsors. We call them “Underwriters”, and you hear them mentioned on air all the time. What you may not realize is how important these local businesses are to keeping WWER on the air. Underwriting accounts for about 2/3 of our annual budget. Without our Underwriters, we could not survive.
Many of our underwriters have been with us from our first year of operation, and renew their commitment to WWER each year. Many of those sponsorships come due in the Summer months, so the arrival of Memorial Day has reminded me that as they renew, we should recognize them here for their unwavering commitment. So far, the following underwriters have recently renewed with us:
Silver level
Dr. Caryn Self Sullivan – ‘Dr. Caryn’ as she is widely known, has supported WWER since before we went on air in 2019. She was instrumental in helping us file the paperwork to become a 501(c)3 nonprofit, has been involved in numerous projects and shows, and donates money each year in addition to her valuable time! But Dr. Caryn does not sit still. Her latest endeavor is Beach Paws Boutique located next to Hawthorn Mercantile. We thank Dr. Caryn for her unwavering support by renewing in March 2023.
Storke Funeral Home – Storke is another underwriter who has been with us from our start in 2019 and renewed in January of 2023 for another year. There have been sponsors who sign up for a year and then disappear – it’s the ones who stick around that really make a difference to WWER!
Bronze level
Ascent Audiology – Dr. Kuster has been with us from our first year (2019) and continues to support WWER. His practice is in Fredericksburg and he has numerous patients from Colonial Beach. Dr. Kuster who has over 24 years of experience and has been the winner of “Best in the Berg”, Audiology category for the past 2 years. Ascent renewed in March 2023.
Colonial Buzz Espresso Bar – “The Buzz” ladies Donna and Pam have been super supporters of WWER. In addition to their Bronze level underwriting, one month a year they donate all Buzz tips to WWER. Donna volunteers her time to WWER as well – you can hear her weekday mornings 6AM to 9AM. If you visit The Buzz, you can hear WWER because they play it in the shop, and they sell WWER coffee mugs!
Olde Towne Insurance – Olde Town is local and has also been there from the start in 2019 and just renewed for another year at the end of 2022. We appreciate their unwavering support!
Colonial Beach Real Estate – Bob Swink renewed his commitment to WWER in May.
Show sponsors
Carolina Palm Vacations – Shortly after adding our very popular show Beach Breeze & Grooves, host Craig Jennings enlisted the financial support of Carolina Palm Vacations, a vacation rental company in Myrtle Beach, our most distant underwriter! Each year since 2021 Carolina Palm have continued to support the show financially. In April, they renewed for another year of support.
Hawthorn Mercantile – Hawthorn opened in 2021 and immediately became an underwriter at our highest level. Their support has been strong and we plan to work even more closely with them on a new project. Watch for further announcements as this work proceeds!
There are more underwriters coming up for renewal this Summer and Fall. We sincerely hope they will continue to support WWER. This year we plan to move into a new studio space and that will require continued funding to keep our bills paid. Underwriters coming up for renewal later this year include
Silver
- Keyser Printing
- Denson’s Grocery
- The Colonial Beach Community Foundation – who were instrumental in creating WWER from the start
Bronze
- Westmoreland Democrats
- Eric Nelson of Coldwell Banker Elite Real Estate
- Beachcomber Cottages
- Colonial Beach Brewing
If you know any of these businesses, please let them know how important their contribution is to us and to you for supporting Community radio! We want to encourage them to renew.
