We’re back!
Written by Ted Tait on August 15, 2022
If you listen to WWER on an FM radio, you probably noticed some problems we were having. The same songs repeating, and some other issues. I’m happy to say we managed to restore things back to normal on Sunday afternoon. So don’t be afraid to turn your radio back on!
We had an equipment problem at the transmitter site which caused it to lose contact with the studio. Normally, these sort of issues last only a very short time, and our equipment at the transmitter is set up to fill the void by playing a playlist of music until the link to our studio can be restored. Unfortunately that equipment kept resetting, so the playlist started over and over. That’s why you heard the same songs, and it took us a few days to get it sorted.
The root cause appears to be the heat. We don’t have air conditioning at our transmitter site, and the brutal heat took its toll on our equipment there. We’ve taken steps to help the gear run cooler, and the recent break in the heat is helping too! We’re looking to see what longer term solutions are possible. Operating on a shoestring budget limits our options, but we are looking at what can be done.
Thanks for bearing with us. During the entire incident, our internet stream continued without incident. Please remember when you move outside the range of a FM signal (or we are having problems like this one), you have the option to listen online from anywhere in the world here –

Special thanks to our Chief Operator Dave Loudin (who is also our weatherman) for figuring out the solution!
